Dr. Julie Smith
Medical Director and Chief of Anesthesia
Joined the IPIC team in 2001 to open their first imaging facility in Vienna, VA

 

 

Education and Training:

Undergraduate:  BS Biology, Texas Tech University; BS Veterinary Science, Texas A&M University

Doctorate:  DVM, Texas A&M University

Internship:  University of Missouri-Columbia

Residency:  University of Missouri-Columbia and The Ohio State University

Board Certification:  Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists

Acupuncture:   Completed the IVIS Veterinary Acupuncture Course

Faculty Positions:  Veterinary Programs at The Ohio State University and Louisiana State University

Lectures/Publications:  Dr. Smith has published in several veterinary journals and textbooks.  She is a lecturer for many local and national veterinary associations, veterinary technician groups, and individual veterinary practices.

Special interests:  Anesthesia for diagnostic imaging and patients with neurological disease; vital signs monitoring and outpatient anesthesia.  Teaching anesthetic principals and vital signs monitoring to anyone who will listen.

Pets: Bill, the black Laborador/Great Dane combo, and Bo, the German Shepard Dog.  Four black cats; Rascal, Eddie, Baker and Fo’Shizzle.

Personal Facts: Moved to Northern Virginia six years ago from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Enjoys exploring the area and listening to music with her son.  Other interests include gardening and motorcycle riding.


 


Dennis Daniels
Registered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist
Joined the IPIC team to apply his MR knowledge to diagnostic imaging of companion animals.

Associate Degree: Radiology, Forsyth Tech Community College

Associate Degree: Radiation Therapy, Forsyth Tech Community College

Bachelor Degree: Business Administration, Montreat College

Registrations (4): Radiology Technology; Radiation Therapy; Computed Tomography; and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Special Interests: Advancing the application of magnetic resonance technology in veterinary patients and increasing MRI safety awareness.

Personal Facts: Relocated to Northern Virginia from Waxhaw, NC, two years ago. Dennis is a paintball enthusiast who enjoys exploring the area with his daughter and taking her fishing, bicycling, and camping.

 

 

 

 

 


Lynn Abbott
Head Veterinary Technician
Joined the IPIC team in 2005

Veterinary Experience:  Washington Humane Society, Spay/Neuter Clinic; Quince Orchard Veterinary Hospital

Volunteer:  Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary

Certification:  Licensed Veterinary Technician, State of Virginia

Special Interests:  Animal welfare and advancing the profession of veterinary technology.

Pets:  Lynn shares her home with three rescued animal companions--a retired racing greyhound and two tortoiseshell cats.

Personal Facts:  Ethical vegan.
